The online servers for Dark Souls 2 will cease to operate in March, affecting players on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
In a recent statement shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), game developer FromSoftware announced the shutdown of Dark Souls 2.
“The Dark Souls 2 PS3 and Xbox 360 servers will shut down on 31st March 2024,” the post confirmed. “A message stating that online play is disabled will be displayed. Offline play will still be possible.”
In a subsequent announcement, it was officially confirmed that the Dark Souls servers for PS3 and Xbox 360 will be shut down at 1pm UK time. The shutdown of Dark Souls 2 will not impact the servers for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
The statement expressed gratitude towards the players who have been actively engaged with Dark Souls 2 since its release. The message also expressed appreciation for their understanding and support.
What is Dark Souls 2?
Dark Souls 2, a beloved video game, was first launched in 2014. This iconic game played a significant role in solidifying FromSoftware’s reputation and popularizing the challenging yet satisfying action RPG genre, which has since become widely recognized.
Similar to previous installments in the Souls series, Dark Souls 2 offers multiplayer functionalities that allow players to join other individuals’ games to provide assistance or disrupt their playthroughs by invading their worlds.
FromSoftware faced difficulties in resolving multiplayer security issues in Dark Souls, leading to an extended downtime of PC servers last year.
